Thinking about renting a storage unit, but do not know how to safely store your belongings? We have pulled together our top tips to ensure your items are stored safely and securely with us.
1) Take an inventory of any items you are storing
Before you store your items, make a list of everything you are storing. Keeping an up-to-date inventory means you know exactly what you have stored and helps prevent you searching for items you think you have mislaid or lost.
2) Wrap fragile items
If you are storing any fragile items make sure you wrap them to prevent any damages. If you are storing clothes/materials then a good tip is to wrap smaller fragile items within them. Alternatively, we sell a range of packaging materials, including bubble wrap and polythene covers, that you can purchase and collect from our premises during office hours.
3) Cover large household items
Covering larger items, such as furniture, with sheets and blankets helps to prevent dust build-up and preserves the life of then. It also helps if you disassemble large items such as beds and dining tables, as this not only saves space, it will mean they are less likely to get damaged in the move into storage.
4) Prepare electrical appliances
If you are storing any electrical appliances, then clean and dry them before covering them. If the appliance is a washer, fridge or dishwasher, leave the appliance doors slightly open to prevent mildew and moisture from building up.
5) Know what you can and cannot store
The only items we ask customers not to store at Offerfair are food items and perishable goods, combustible or flammable materials such as oil and fuel, firearms and explosives, chemical and radioactive materials, in addition to motor bikes and any other vehicles.
6) Make sure your items are insured
Our insurance covers your items up to £100, but if the value of your items in storage exceeds this amount, then we recommend you purchase your own insurance cover.
7) Choose a secure self-storage facility
